shot types
what is media?
Its anything from Facebook to a film, to a book, poster, radio station.
types of media:
print - books, posters, newspaper
interactive - gaming, social media, phone
internet - website, social media
radio - channels, podcasts, talk shows, audio books
film/TV
micro elements - communicating to the audience
macro elements - more depth information
cinematography - camera work ~ anything to do with the camera
sound - audio
mise-en-scene - the arrangement of the scenery, props
editing - the putting together the footage
genre - the category of which the film or book is from for example horror or drama
narrative - a spoken or written account of connected events
shot types
a shot is a series of frames
there are 8 main types
extreme long shot (xls)
- a wide view of a complete setting
- purpose to emphasis the area of the scene and a person barely visible
long shot (ls)
- closer then xls but still shows the whole scene
- a person would be clearly visible and fits easily within the frame
- often to establish a location, giving the audience information of the area
medium long shot (mls)
- still gives a deal of the setting but concentrates on the subject/ character
- a human can be seen in more detail
medium shot (ms)
- see the character from waist up
- we see expressions and the details of physical appearance
medium close up (mcu)
- the only person in the scene
- one for news readers
- also used for conversations between two characters or the reaction

- we get more information from the face, gives features from the character in more detail![]() |

big close up (bcu)
- shows all the small details, on the face- shows the social triangle

- see the small detail- gets into the characters intimate space
- emotions that go unnoticed from afar
