Atypical
Atypical
This is something that I have finished watching on Netflix, it is about Sam who is on the autism spectrum and it shows how he copes on being independent and trying to get a girlfriend.WARNING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.
what is the genre of atypical?
It is a drama and a comedy, with the story line that it touches from being on the autism spectrum, to being cheated on, to going through the struggles of school and relationships. The different characters give it the funny side and this show completely shows you a different side to autism, from the real struggles family's have in real life, for example one of the story lines is after Sam has chosen to go to college but he is starting to fear all of the changes that come with going to college like moving away from home. So to try and get over it he tries to stay round his friends house for the night but gets annoyed with all of the noises so he leaves during the night, but he gets stopped by a police officer which thinks he is on drugs but he isn't, he is just trying to calm himself down from the stress of the noises and he gets arrested with his friend who comes, and tries to calm him down and tell the police officer that he is autistic but the officer wasn't having any of it and arrested them both. To which this does happen in real life because no one understands if they don't know anyone who has autism or has autism themselves which I feel needs to change.![]() |

who is the audience?
I feel that the TV show is aimed at families who may have someone in there family who has autism, but i also feel that it is for those who doesn't have anyone in there family or doesn't know anyone who has autism, because it teaches you a lot about autism and how each family member goes through it and how they all cope. I also feel that is aimed at a teenagers because it goes through Sam's school life and the struggles he faces to get a girlfriend and as its a coming of age program.

what are the shows aims?
i feel that atypical aims are to show us the struggles of a person who has autism and how there family helps them through the persons life too and how they also cope going through there lives for example sams sister gets a scholarship to go to a different school then him and when she has her interview he goes missing and she puts the interview on hold so she could find him, which turned out he was hidding in the science lab away from his girlfriend because she took his jacket and he didnt feel comfortable with her wearing it as it was his, so it is very educational, and it is also very entertaining as it is a comedy.
